Meet Thom & Julie Beyer

The Range in McKinney is Thom and Julie Beyer’s concept of a great practice range with a family friendly environment and excellent training where anyone can learn how to shoot and how to do it safely. Thom has loved the sport of shooting since he was 8 years old and learned how to shoot his .22 on his family’s property. From that moment on, proper teaching and a respect for firearms have been important to him. For years, Thom took friends out to that same property and taught them how to shoot and how to do it safely. In fact, one of his “students” became a firearms instructor for the US Air Force — she was only 19 at the time.

important to him. For years, Thom took friends out to that same property and taught them how to shoot and how to do it safely. In fact, one of his “students” became a firearms instructor for the US Air Force — she was only 19 at the time.

In 2014, Thom started visiting firearm stores in the area and found that most of the salespeople were not listening to the client, customer service was terrible, and the general up-keep of the businesses was not great. When he visited some of the local ranges, he realized even in Texas, in the 21st century, indoor ranges weren’t always a pleasant experience. Even though you were inside, you weren’t guaranteed the facility had working air conditioning, and most had no filtration to clean the air. The worst part was the existing marketing methods for ranges focused on a narrow, male clientele and lacked professional-looking ads and broad-based marketing materials.


We have traveled around the country visiting ranges and learning from their owners. We wanted to build a different kind of practice range -- a range designed to make everyone feel at home. A range with great customer service and a family friendly environment where men, women, and families interested in firearm instruction, safety and proficiency could feel comfortable and learn about, practice and enjoy the sport of shooting.
