  • FFL TRANSFERS

    WHAT IS AN FFL TRANSFER?

    If you purchase a firearm out of state, federal law requires that the firearm be transferred through an FFL (Federal Firearm License) Dealer.  The firearm is shipped to us, and we transfer the firearm to you.

    THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

    SHIPPING COSTS

    You are responsible for all shipping costs both to and from our range, in addition to the applicable fee. Make sure to find out the return policies of 3rd party vendors.


    DELAYED PICKUP

    If you can not pick up the firearm within 14 days, we are required to start the return process.


    DENIED BACKGROUND CHECK

    If your federal NICS background check is returned as denied, you will not be allowed to take possession of the firearm. The Range in McKinney is not responsible for any refunds, shipping, deposits, or other fees incurred in this process. The firearm will be returned to the seller. Any fees associated with the return of the firearm are your sole responsibility.


    ATF DENIALS

    If denied, you have the option to appeal.  You must let us know immediately that you are attempting to appeal.


    HOW TO TRANSFER A FIREARM

    When purchasing a firearm, during the checkout process, you will be asked to provide FFL info. If purchasing on guns.com as well as many others, we are a registered FFL so you will be able to select our FFL on checkout.

  • DOES THE RANGE IN MCKINNEY DO NFA TRANSFERS?

    No. At this time we DO NOT accept NFA transfers of restricted firearms and other devices such as silencers, short-barreled rifles, etc. 

  • WHO CAN SHOOT?

    WE ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

    You must be 18 years or older to shoot unaccompanied. Anyone under 18 needs to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.


    I AM NOT A TEXAS RESIDENT. CAN I SHOOT THERE?

    Yes, as long as you have a government-issued ID.


    CAN I SHOOT THERE IF I HAVE NEVER SHOT BEFORE?

    YES. We welcome everyone who wants to learn about and enjoy the sport of shooting. If you are a first-time shooter, you will need an instructor with you in the range. Your best option is to go to our website and schedule a Beginner Private Lesson. This will guarantee you a lesson at the time you choose. We do allow for on-demand private lessons, but they may not be available at peak times. Having an instructor with you will ensure your safety and make your first target-shooting experience more enjoyable. 


    I AM NOT A U.S. CITIZEN. CAN I SHOOT THERE?

    We are glad to have you visit our range. You must provide a government-issued ID to rent firearms and purchase ammunition which may not be taken off the premises. 


    HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO SHOOT THERE?

    Children 8 years or older are welcome to shoot as long as they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. See the Can Children Shoot at The Range FAQ for more detailed information.

  • CAN CHILDREN SHOOT AT THE RANGE IN MCKINNEY

    HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO SHOOT THERE?

    As long as they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, any children 8 years or older is welcome to shoot. A parent/legal guardian must sign a waiver for the minor child. The Range in McKinney personnel reserves the right to determine if the child is capable of safely shooting. 


    Safety rules will be discussed with the parent and child. We require that there be a parent or guardian with each child at all times while in the range. No children under the age of 12 should be left unattended.


    CAN A NON-PARENT/NON-GUARDIAN SIGN THE WAIVER FOR A MINOR OR 18-20 YEAR OLD?

    No, the waiver must be signed by a parent or guardian. Siblings and other unrelated adults cannot sign the waiver. 


    CAN I DROP OFF MY CHILD TO SHOOT?

    No, unaccompanied minors are not allowed unless enrolled in a camp or class designed for youth. We encourage parents/guardians to stay for camps. All youth shooters must have a signed waivers.

  • LANE FEES

    $25 an hour per lane.


    $15 for each additional shooter on the same lane,  with a maximum of 3 shooters per lane.

  • RANGE

    IF YOU ARE IN DOUBT ABOUT YOUR SPECIFIC GUN OR AMMO COMBINATION, ASK AN EMPLOYEE BEFORE SHOOTING.


    CAN I PICK UP MY BRASS?

    Yes, you can pick up your own brass (only yours) by hand. You may not use range equipment to pick up your brass. 


    CAN I BRING MY OWN GUNS?

    Yes. 


    CAN I SHOOT BLACK POWDER FIREARMS?

    NO.


    CAN I SHOOT MY SHOTGUN?

    Slugs only.


    WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CALIBER ALLOWED?

    50 BFG


    CAN IS SHOOT MY AR & AK STYLE RIFLES THERE?

    Yes. We welcome them. But, our lanes are 25 yards. We do not provide chairs or rifle rests.


    CAN I SHOOT MY BB OR PELLET GUN THERE?

    Lead .177 caliber pellets may be shot here. Steel pellets, or BBs of any sort are NOT allowed, for safety reasons.


    CAN I SHOOT FULL-AUTO FIREARMS THERE?

    You are welcome to shoot your LEGALLY OWNED select-fire or full-auto guns here. If you are in doubt about shooting your particular gun here, give us a call or ask our RSO. Proper documentation must be provided. 


    CAN I BRING MY OWN TARGETS?

    Yes. you can bring your own targets. But, check out our cool targets before you go to the trouble of ordering any. We have splatter burst, multi-target, silhouette, and fun targets.


    CAN I USE SPRAY ADHESIVE IN YOUR RANGE?

    Absolutely NOT. It is not safe in an indoor range.


    CAN I HOLSTER DRAW?

    Yes, you may holster draw after you show proficiency to our Range Safety Officer. Once approved, you can holster draw provided that you do so in a safe and controlled manner. If you sweep your gun's muzzle across another person or yourself, you are not safely drawing from the holster and will be instructed to stop. RSO must approve your holster before you begin and may ask you to wait if the range is less congested. We do NOT allow you to draw from the following positions: appendix, cross body, from your back, or shoulder holster. Hip draw from gun hand only. Law enforcement are welcome to practice while using their issued equipment. 


    AM I ALLOWED TO SHOOT ONE-HANDED?

    Yes, provided that you do so in a safe and controlled manner.


    AM I ALLOWED TO RAPID-FIRE?

    You can rapid fire after proving you are clear for rapid fire from either our class or the range safety officer (RSO). We do not allow you to shoot faster than you can control your gun with aimed fire. Generally, one second between rounds is recommended for a controllable rate of fire. If you are not hitting your target, you are not in control and must slow down.


    AM I ALLOWED TO SHOOT TWO GUNS AT ONE TIME?

    No.  


    IS THE VENTILATION SYSTEM SAFE FOR GUESTS AND EMPLOYEES?

    Yes. our fresh air (never recirculated) system exceeds industry standards. Employees are monitored and tested for lead exposure. 

  • IS EYE & EAR PROTECTION REQUIRED?

    Yes. Eye and Ear protection is mandatory while in the range. We sell eye and ear protection. We also have rental ear protection.


    We also have eye protection you may purchase if you wear glasses. Everyday glasses will not protect your eyes and may break if struck. 

  • HOW DO I RESERVE/BOOK A LANE?

    Tier 2, Tier 3 and Corporate members can reserve lanes by calling 972.330.4415, then choosing option 3.

    Tuesdays are Ladies Day. Half off range fees and free rentals.

  • DO I NEED A MEMBERSHIP?

    No. We are open to the public. You do NOT need a membership to shoot at The Range in McKinney.

    CAN I CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP BEFORE THE 12 MONTHS ARE OVER?

    Memberships are 12-month commitments which start at the date of purchase. To cancel your membership you MUST notify us in writing 30 days in advance. No refunds will be issued. Email thom@trmckinney.com to inform The Range in McKinney about any membership issues.


    ARE THERE PAYMENT PLANS FOR MEMBERSHIPS?

    All of our memberships have monthly or yearly pay options with payments drawn on or about the 17th of each month.


    DO YOU HAVE MEMBERSHIP DISCOUNTS?

    Yes. Different member levels receive different discounts on select goods and services. See our Membership Page for more details.


    IF I GET A FAMILY OR CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP, DO THE MEMBERS HAVE TO BE NAMED?

    Yes. Each member will receive a membership card with their name attached to it and it will be electronically recorded each time they come in to shoot.

  • DO YOU GIVE LAW ENFORCEMENT AND ACTIVE MILITARY DISCOUNTS?

    Yes. We discount range time, memberships and classes for first responders, active and retired law enforcement and military personnel.


    You must provide proof of your eligibility.

  • CAN MY COMPANY OR GROUP GET A DISCOUNT ON MEMBERSHIPS?

    We have Corporate and Employee discount programs for mid to large-size companies such as ISDs, municipalities, chambers, and corporations. These memberships can be group-only or individual-based. Proof of employment with a corporate partner is required.  Please contact our sales department as 972.330.4415 ext. 3.

    WHY IS THERE A RENTAL PROGRAM?

    The Range in McKinney gun rental program is designed to allow you to experience a wide variety of firearms. 


    WHAT IS THE AGE LIMIT FOR GUN RENTALS?

    The age requirement for HANDGUN RENTALS is 21 unless you possess an LTC.

    The age requirement for RIFLE RENTALS is 18 years old.


    CAN I USE MY PERSONAL AMMO IN YOUR RENTAL GUNS?

    No. All rental firearms must be used with ammo purchased from The Range in McKinney. Ammunition costs vary per caliber, and only ammunition purchased from The Range in McKinney may be used in our rental guns. Changing calibers of rental guns will require the purchase of additional ammo. 


    IS AMMO INCLUDED IN THE FEE?

    The gun rental fee is per firearm and does not include ammunition. 


    WHAT HAPPENS IF I USE MY PERSONAL AMMO?

    You are NOT allowed to use personal ammo in The Range in McKinney rental firearms. If personal ammo is used and damages The Range in McKinney rental or equipment, you are responsible for the repair and/or replacement of that firearm and/or equipment and will be banned from renting guns at The Range in McKinney.


    CAN I RENT A GUN FROM YOU AND TAKE IT HOME?

    No! Our rental guns are only for use on our range.

    CAN I BUY A GUN AT THE RANGE IN MCKINNEY?

    Yes. We have a large variety of firearms for sale. 


    CAN I RETURN AMMO, FIREARMS, or OPTICS?

    No. All sales are final on these items.


    ARE GIFT CARDS REFUNDABLE?

    No. Gift Cards are NOT refundable and CAN NOT be redeemed for cash.

    Gift cards are available in-store and can be used to purchase items in our retail store. 


    Gift cards are not refundable, and not redeemable for cash.

  • HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CLEAN MY GUN?

  • DO YOU OFFER GUNSMITHING SERVICES?

    Yes. We do in-house cleaning and light smithing. We also have an outside gunsmith come on-site for advanced work.

  • SIMULATOR

    WHO CAN USE THE SIMULATOR?

    Individuals, groups, corporate events and private parties. Also, law enforcement agencies, security officers, and school marshalls are encouraged to use our simulator to train. 


    Groups of more than 5 players are subject to Event pricing. Please contact Erin @ erin@trmckinney.com for pricing and scheduling.


    IS THERE ANOTHER SIMULATOR LIKE IT AROUND HERE?

    Our 300-degree simulator is not available at any other commercial range in Texas or the surrounding states.


    WHAT KIND OF SCENARIOS ARE ON THE SIMULATOR?

    Our half-hour simulation scenarios are military or law enforcement situations and can be experienced as a single player or by up to 5 participants. The 5-screen technology provides an immersive, 3D, 300° reality-based training experience for marksmanship, competition, judgment, and precision shooting for up to 5 participants at a time. 


    You pick the scenario that fits you best depending on your interests and the number of participants involved. Choose from a wealth of real-life scenarios, such as fighting insurgents in the desert, defending your home, interacting with active shooters, traffic stops, domestic or workplace disputes, burglary, suicide bombers, hostage situations, and making difficult shots.


    Please note this simulator may not be suitable for children due to language and violence.

  • CAN I TEACH A CLASS AT YOUR RANGE?

    I AM A CERTIFIED INSTRUCTOR, CAN I TEACH A CLASS OR CERTIFY STUDENTS AT THE RANGE IN MCKINNEY?

    We allow outside instructors to rent a classroom and/or range with certain criteria met. Outside instructors must :

    1. Instructors must have a Training Membership 
    2. Schedule with our sales department for the use of a range and/or a classroom. 
    3. Instructors must provide a certificate of insurance listing The Range in McKinney, LLC as an Additional Insured with Waiver of Subrogation. 
    4. The insurance must have an occurrence limit of no less than $1mm. 

    WHAT IF I ONLY HAVE 3 STUDENTS WHO NEED TO USE THE RANGE, CAN WE SHARE LANES?

    If you have 3 or 18 students, you must schedule a range. If you are caught providing unapproved instruction, you will be asked to leave The Range. Your student(s), who are paying for the lane(s), may remain and shoot without you present. 


    IF I ONLY NEED THE LANE FOR 20 MINUTES, CAN I JUST PAY FOR A HALF HOUR?

    No. Our lanes rent out by the hour. The choice to leave early is yours. Why not stay an hour and enjoy yourself?
